Ethanol & E-85

Ethanol is a great fuel that is renewable, biodegradable, and water soluble. The poplular consumer ethanol based fuel, which is called E-85, reduces ozone-forming volatile organic compounds by 15%, carbon monoxide by 40%, NOx by 10%, and sulfate emissions by 80%. Ethanol also have a positive energy balance creating more energy than it takes to produce it.

Projected US Demand and Usage

The Annual Energy Outlook 2007 by the Renewable Fuels Association states that demand will grow to more than 11.2 billion gallons in 2012 and 14.6 billion gallons in 2030 (about 8% of total gasoline consumption by volume).

The projected ethanol consumption in 2012 far exceeds the 7.5 billion gallon requirement of the Renewable Fuel Standard enacted as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
